From Superbowl contenders, to NFL laughing stock. Certainly the Miami Dolphins are in the midst of one of their worst seasons as an NFL franchise. It would not be fair to give the blame or point the finger at any one person because of all of the unfortunate circumstances this team has had to face over the last 6 months. Their best player left the team in August in anything but a BLAZE of glory. Their best wide reciever was lost for the season during training camp drills. They traded one of the NFL's best pass rushers for an underachieving reciever from Chicago. Oh, did I forget to mention that their executive VP of talent retired after just 3 weeks on the job? Maybe Marino knew something the rest of us didn't.
Certainly the man who cannot take the blame is former Dolphins head coach Dave Wannstedt. In his 4 1/2 years as the Miami Dolphins head coach he has averaged 10 victories per-season. Granted in those 4 1/2 years his Dolphins had only won 1 playoff game. However no one can deny the fact that up until this season, Wannstedt's defense was among the NFL's elite during his tenure. It should not have ended the way it did. But, be that as it may, it will not take long for him to resurface as either a college head coach or and NFL defensive coordinator. But what can I say, until the Dolphins get a coach, talent, and most importantly, get better luck, they will remain " In the dawg Pound".
