The Carolina Panthers have agreed to a three-year, $14.5 million deal with running back DeShaun Foster. The move came as somewhat of a surprise, considering the fact that Foster has been very injury prone throughout his career. The signing was made just before the start of free agency Friday night.
The Panthers must have been impressed by Foster's breakout at the end of the season this past year, heading into the playoffs. On the season, Foster rushed for 879 yards and two touchdowns. He was also active in the passing game, catching 34 passes for 372 yards and a touchdown. Foster would've had more touchdowns, but the team used Stephen Davis in goal line situations early on in the year.
The running back market for free agency continues to get smaller as Shaun Alexander, Ahman Green, and now Foster have all signed with their respective teams.
The Panthers may still pursue a backup running back in free agency, since they released Davis last month.
