It is being reported that former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Tice has been hired by the Jacksonville Jaguars for an assistant coaching position. Tice and Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio met on Monday. The two coaches played together in the early 1990s with the Minnesota Vikings. The official position that Tice agreed to take is not clear yet, but should be announced soon.

The Jaguars also hired Mark Duffner as their linebackers coach to replace Brian VanGorder, who left for NCAA football.

There is a rumor that Tice could be hired to deal with the offensive line, since he used to be a tight end in the NFL. If that’s the case, the Jaguars would have to release Paul Boudreau, their current offensive line coach.

Tice was fired from the Vikings after several years filled with controversy. However, his teams usually contended for the playoffs, meaning he may excel as an assistant only.
