The Jacksonville Jaguars placed quarterback Byron Leftwich on the injured reserve, officially ending his season. Leftwich had surgery ten days ago on his ankle. Leftwich was hoping that he would be able to return this season, but the team will have to stick with quarterback David Garrard instead. Leftwich started the first six games of the season for Jacksonville and was average, throwing for 1,159 yards with seven touchdowns and five interceptions.
Since Garrard has taken over for Jacksonville, the team has been 3-2. Garrard's performances have been up and down, but so has the performances of the rest of the players on Jacksonville.
There is also a belief that Leftwich may have played his final game with the Jaguars. Garrard has a lot more mobility than Leftwich, and with more experience, he could be the guy to lead the Jaguars next season. Unfortunately, the Jaguars may be in trouble as far as making the postseason this year is concerned. The Kansas City Chiefs, Cincinnati Bengals, and the Denver Broncos each have the edge on them for the two wildcard spots at this point.
