Baltimore Ravens offensive guard Edwin Mulitalo will miss the rest of the season after having surgery to repair his torn right triceps tendon. Mulitalo suffered the injury during the third quarter of the Ravens' 16-13 victory over the San Diego Chargers this past Sunday. The Ravens placed him on the injured reserve after the surgery.
Mulitalo had a tough 2005 season that included several knee problems, as well as the death of his father.
"Edwin deserved better," said head coach Brian Billick on Monday. "But we have pointed out that the depth of this team should be one of its strengths. This happens to be the first real test of that."
The Ravens signed offensive guard Ikechuku Ndukwe to their roster to take Mulitalo's place. Ndukwe, at 6-foot-4, 338 pounds, had been on the Washington Redskins' practice squad. Jason Brown, a fourth-round draft pick by the Ravens last year, will replace Mulitalo in the starting lineup for the time being. Brown has one start in his career.
