After a very unusual play last week, it looks like Jason Elam should be "ok". After running the ball on a fake field goal last week against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday Night Football, Elam strained his left hamstring. Although Elam only gained about two yards on the run, the weird thing was that the Broncos decided to kick the field goal on the very next play. After making the kick, Elam grabbed his hamstring in pain.
"I wish I had another week to get it completely better, but I feel good and should be OK," Elam said on Friday. "I tried to hit some extra points (Friday) and step it up a little bit, and they would have been good from 40 and I wasn't swinging too hard. I'm pretty confident everything's going to be fine."
If the Broncos run into a long field goal situation this Sunday, punter Paul Ernster may be the guy that's forced to kick it. Ernster made 9 of 18 field goal attempts when he was in college. Meanwhile, Broncos middle linebacker Al Wilson is questionable to play in this week's game after a scary sight Sunday night. Wilson was carted off the field after injuring his neck when running into teammate Gerard Warren.
"I asked him how he was feeling and he said, 'Bad,"' Shanahan said. "But he said, 'I feel bad every week.' He said, 'I think that's a good sign.' We're sure hoping he's playing."
The Broncos need a win to stay competitive in the wildcard race. The Chiefs are looking to gain the upper hand on them still, while the Jets and the Bengals are currently ranked above Denver in the wildcard race, despite having the same record.
