The Jets are getting a whole new look. A month after Herman Edwards was traded away to the Kansas City Chiefs, Jets general manager Terry Bradway stepped down. Assistant general manager Mike Tannenbaum will take over for Bradway, who will remain with the team as a consaultant. Bradway said that the decision was mutual between the two teams.
"I think it's important that Eric get off to a good start with the right people in place and the fact that Mike is very deserving of this opportunity, the fact that he has a good relationship with Eric will be a plus for the Jets," Bradway said. "I know those guys will work tirelessly."
Bradway came to the Jets in 2001 and helped the Jets make the playoffs in three of the five years he spent with the team. After the Jets fell to 4-12 this year though, it was time to part ways. Bradway took some heat for giving Edwards to the Chiefs for only a fourth-round pick.
Tannenbaum was asked whether or not it was his decision to bring in new head coach Eric Mangini.
"I can't sit here and rewrite history or what could of or should have happened," he said. "The hiring process in 2006 was very similar to what it was in 2001, where Woody, Terry and myself were a part of it. It was Terry's final say. The processes were very similar."
Tannenbaum will be in his ninth season with the Jets.
