Cleveland, OH. (PFCritics) -- The Jets are ready. D'Brickashaw Ferguson is signed. The talented offensive lineman, and fourth overall pick in this year's draft, signed a contract with the Jets Wednesday night. Contract details have not yet been released. Ferguson will step in right away as a starter on the Jets offensive line, which struggled heavily last year.
Ferguson did not missed a single start since becoming a starter in college, showing his durability without question. Ferguson is a very athletic offensive lineman, something you don't hear very often. When we say athletic, we really do mean it. He's doesn't have a lot of size but has been bulking up and improving his strength over the past few years. He has long arms, but will need to be tested to see if he can handle some of the truly "big" defensive ends in the league. His footwork is very good and he is flawless when dropping back into pass protection. His run blocking isn't as good as his pass blocking, but it still won't cause any problems for whoever drafts him. He started at left tackle for four years at Virgina, which definitely impressed teams in the sense that he's been so durable.
At 6-foot-6, 312 pounds, Ferguson was the best offensive lineman in this year's draft by far, according to scouts. Meanwhile, the Jets are also close to signing center Nick Mangold. Mangold was selected in the first round as well, with the 29th overall pick. Mangold, a center, is also expected to start on the Jets' offensive line this season.
