The Oakland Raiders have released starting quarterback Kerry Collins after the veteran was unable to fit in the team's offense as they had hoped this past season. The Raiders had signed running back LaMont Jordan and wide receiver Randy Moss before the season began, but things never got going as they should have. By cutting Collins, the Raiders have saved about $9.2 million against the salary cap.
Over the past two seasons, Collins was only 7-21 as a starter for Oakland. Collins refused to restructure his contract. Raiders new head coach Art Shell thought that Collins was still a good fit for the Raiders offense, but there's nothing else they could've done. It wasn't worth paying Collins more, where they could use the money at other positions.
There is a chance that the Raiders could try and select quarterback Vince Young in the draft. Young's stock has suddenly dropped the past few weeks, and there is a very good chance that the athletic quarterback could fall right into the hands of the silver and black.
