The Dallas Cowboys could very well be clearing room for Terrell Owens. The team released veteran receiver Keyshawn Johnson a few hours after Owens was released by the Eagles. The Cowboys have shown a lot of interest in Owens. Johnson was released right before he was about to receive a $1 million bonus.
"Keyshawn is one of a handful of the top competitors that have ever played for the Dallas Cowboys," said Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. "The more he was a part of our team, the more we appreciated him as a player."
This past season, Johnson caught 71 passes for 839 yards and six touchdowns. He should be pursued by several teams in free agency. Although Owens has a troubled history with the Cowboys, Dallas simply wants to win.
Right now, Terry Glenn is the only true receiving threat remaining on the Cowboys. If the Cowboys fail to sign Owens, they may be interested in Buffalo receiver Eric Moulds, who used to play with Drew Bledsoe. The team could also re-sign Johnson to a new deal.
Johnson was a first-round pick in the draft by the New York Jets in 1996.
