The No. 1 draft picks of receivers for the Lions didn't work out the greatest. Wide receiver Charles Rogers was the first casualty of the group, after he was released on Saturday. He only recorded 36 catches for 440 yards and four touchdowns during his career, despite being a high first-round pick a few years ago.
"We picked the men that are right for this football team," Lions head coach Rod Marinelli said. "It's behind us. I wish him the very best. We just move on."
Rogers was drafted before receivers Roy Williams and Mike Williams, both first round picks. Roy Williams was definitely safe, but Mike Williams was on the bubble for awhile. Rogers career started with a bang, when he caught two touchdowns in his very first career game. It was downhill after that though, including a broken collarbone twice.
Last year he only recorded five catches for 77 yards before being suspended for four games for violating the league's substance abuse policy. That basically spelled the end for Rogers in a Lions' uniform.
