St. Louis Rams head coach Mike Martz will miss the remainder of the season with a bacterial infection of a heart valve. Martz has already missed two games due to his health this year, and the decision was very ard for him to make.

"This is very difficult for me to do," said Martz at a news conference. "But I know it's the right thing to do."

Martz has one year left on his contract and expects to return next season. He has taken the Rams to the Super Bowl once, but has been often criticized for his improper balance on offense.

Jon Vitt will continue as the Rams' head coach. Vitt has a 1-1 record since taking over or Martz.
