With the return of one man often comes the absence of another. That may be the case this week, as Matt Hasselbeck will miss at least three weeks after straining a ligament in his right knee this past Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. The injury occurred after linebacker E.J. Henderson of the Vikings rolled into Hasselbecks lower right leg early in the second half of the game. Hasselbeck was upset with the incident, believing Henderson could have avoided it.
"I don't think it was unavoidable, but only he would know," Hasselbeck said. "I'm sure he didn't try to put me out for a long period of time -- but they didn't want me to finish the game, either."
If Hasselbeck returns as hoped, he'll be back for Seattle's November 19th game against the San Francisco 49ers. Until then, Seneca Wallace, a four-year veteran who has been a backup during his career, will finally get his first chance to start a game. The start will come against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Wallace took over for Hasselbeck against the Vikings, but didn't do too well. He was 14-of-25 for 134 yards and two interceptions. He also fumbled once, leading to another Vikings touchdown. However, Wallace intends to be much more prepared this week.
"I welcome all challenges. This is what my job is," Wallace said.
The Seahawks are still waiting for MVP running back Shaun Alexander to return to the field, which will probably be before Hasselbeck is able to come back.
