After finally signing with the Arizona Cardinals, they don't want to wait long for him to see some action. In fact, it'll come sooner than we thought: this Saturday against the New England Patriots. Cardinals head coach Dennis Green stated that Leinart would play in the second quarter of the game, following starting QB Kurt Warner. There is no competition, but the Cardinals want Leinart to get involved as soon as possible.
"He'll go in the second, and then John Navarre will go in the third," said Green.
Warner played well in his first preseason game, but the same can't be said for Navarre, who threw two interceptions.
"I've never been to an NFL game," Leinart said, "and my first game I'm going to be playing in. It's pretty cool."
Leinart has been taking a lot of reps with the second team offense since signing with the Cardinals to get prepared for the game. Leinart was pleasantly surprised with how quickly he was worked into sessions, rather than having to sit, watch, and learn.
"I was a little surprised," Leinart said of his early work in practice. "They were throwing me in there almost every time it seemed like. But it was good. I thought I threw the ball pretty well."
PFC Fantasy News: Warner is a veteran, he doesn't need the extra reps at this point. The Cardinals are doing the smart thing by getting Leinart some action this Saturday. The Patriots don't like to play their defensive starters too much in the preseason either, so Leinart shouldn't be overmatched in his first game.
