The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have re-signed veteran fullback Mike Alstott to a one-year deal just before free agency began last night, reports ESPN. Alstott had considered retiring after this past season, but he has put that off for at least a year. Alstott will receive about $1.5 to $2 million next season.
Despite being 32 years old, Alstott is still one of the best fullbacks in the game today. He has been to the Pro Bowl six times. Alstott did not carry the ball as much as he used to this past season, but he still rushed for seven touchdowns. Rookie running back Cadillac Williams and backup Michael Pittman ran the ball most of the time.
Alstott has had some health concerns over the past few years, but the Buccaneers hope that his more limited role will allow him to extend his career.
