The St. Louis Rams signed fullback Moe Williams to a one-year deal on Wednesday. Williams has spent the past nine seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, but was used mostly as a backup running back. His best season came in 2002, when he ran for 11 touchdowns as a goal-line threat. In 2003, Williams ran for a career-high 745 yards. During that season, current Rams coach Scott Linehan was the Vikings' offensive coordinator.
Last season, Williams couldn't contribute to the Vikings' inconsistent running game. He only played in six games before having right knee surgery in November. Williams was originally a third-round pick in 1996, and has ran for 1,826 yards and 21 touchdowns during his career. He has also caught 154 passes for 1,511 yards and four touchdowns. One play that Williams was remembered for was a few years ago with the Vikings. Right before halftime, Daunte Culpepper heaved a Hail Mary to Randy Moss, who leaped up and caught the ball around the ten yard line amidst defenders. Knowing he would be tackled, Moss lateraled the ball to Williams, who was dashing towards the end zone uncovered.
Fantasy News: Williams could be used as the primary backup to Steven Jackson. With Marshall Faulk on the verge of "retiring", the only other backup is Tony Fisher. In all likelihood, Williams will try out as a third-down or goal line type back.
