Comebacks. Usually, there's always one thrilling comeback per week in the NFL after the bye weeks begin. This past Sunday, we were blessed to witness five successful comebacks, as well as several games that just missed the same notation.

First, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers stunned the potent Cincinnati Bengals offense. Although Carson Palmer didn't really make any mistakes during the game, the Bengals only came up with the big play twice, and Rudi Johnson never got his wheels going. That was enough to allow rookie quarterback Bruce Gradkowski to record his second straight solid game, and his first victory of the year. The Bengals are now 3-2, and could easily end up at .500 again since they are taking on a 4-0 Panthers club since they've had Steve Smith on the field.

Should the Bengals start panicking? It's still early, and the answer is still muddled. On one hand, the Baltimore Ravens are still one game ahead of them, while the Pittsburgh Steelers looked like they were finally "back" against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. However, the Ravens have lost two in a row, and the Bengals already own a division win over the Steelers. The AFC North will be a tight race down the stretch, but at this point, the Bengals and Steelers should have the best chance at cracking the playoffs.

What about Baltimore then? Well, although Steve McNair is better than what they've had, they still have questions in their running game, a mediocre set of receivers, and a dull offensive scheme. I don't think firing Jim Fassel will do much to help that either. And, for anyone who thinks that Kyle Boller should lead the offense because he threw for three touchdowns last week, you're nuts. Did you already forget that he has been a disaster since they've drafted him, except for maybe two games? And, weren't two of his touchdowns last week the most flukish touchdowns by any quarterback in the league this season?

Another comeback saw the Seattle Seahawks rallying late to defeat the St. Louis Rams. Marc Bulger threw his first interception of the season, but that's not the reason they lost. The Rams offense was great, but Matt Hasselbeck played just a notch better perhaps. Deion Branch, who is already looking like the best acquisition the Seahawks could've made to recover from their flop in Nate Burleson, caught two touchdowns. The Rams blew a chance to lay claim to the NFC West, and on the same note, the Seahawks showed why they'll still be a big threat in the NFC when Shaun Alexander returns. Maurice Morris has not been able to do anything since Alexander went down.

Fortunately for both clubs, it looks as if both we'll have a shot at making the playoffs. They're in a division with two teams with losing records, the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals. However, it should be noted that the Rams did lose to the 49ers. That means the Rams have already lost two division games, which will kill their chances of winning the division if they finish the season in a tie for first place with Seattle. Speaking of their division, I can't go any further without outlining how bad the Cardinals' collapse to the Bears was. In my opinion, it was the best comeback since the Indianapolis Colts came back from 21 points down with roughly five minutes to play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a few years ago on Monday Night. The Colts game was still better, but the circumstances of the Cardinals collapse were more depressing. As far as Dennis Green's outburst, I don't see a problem with it on a rare occasion. If he did it every week, it'd be ridiculous, but he doesn't.

The final score may not seem like it, but the Giants were dominated the first half of the football game against the Atlanta Falcons. The Giants really dominated the second half after Warrick Dunn's 90-yard run though, including a season high in touchdowns for Jeremy Shockey. The Giants have rebounded nicely after their bye week and are right back in the thick of things in their division, right in time for a big game with the Dallas Cowboys this week. If they can beat Dallas, they'll be 3-0 in the division already.

Of the winless teams that picked up victories this past Sunday, the Buccaneers' win was the most surprising, while the Lions' win was the least surprising. Jon Kitna has moved the ball well for Detroit as of late, and it was only a matter of time before that carried them to a victory. The Tennessee Titans getting a victory over the Washington Redskins was a surprise for several reasons though. First, after playing so poorly the first several weeks, I didn't expect the Titans to rebound from a near upset to the Indianapolis Colts the week before. And, I didn't expect Travis Henry, the Titans new starting running back, to turn in two straight ace performances, the first time he's done that since he was in his prime with the Buffalo Bills a couple of seasons ago. Remember when good old Travis Henry was a top fantasy football running back?

Besides the Rams/Seahawks game, the other game of the week was the New Orleans Saints against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Saints can now officially be taken seriously at the next level after beating a solid Eagles team. It's amazing how a team can change so much in one year, making you wonder how teams like the Houston Texans and Cleveland Browns have struggled for so long. Doesn't it seem like the younger/less experienced head coaches are getting struggling ballclubs to play better these days? Just take a look at Scott Linehan with the Rams and Sean Payton with the Saints, and then look at Joe Gibbs and the Redskins or Herman Edwards and the Chiefs.

We've already seen the Ravens collapse as a result of a lackluster offense, showing that a defense can only carry you so far at times. That will be the case for the Denver Broncos soon as well if they don't get their act together. The Broncos have only allowed one touchdown this year, but I don't care how good you are, that type of a track record can't go on forever. Even if the Broncos defense allows two touchdowns one of these days, they could lose the game. There is no way the Oakland Raiders should have statistically been in the game as long as they were, and if Denver isn't careful, they're going to be upset by a team like the Browns this week.

Now, here are some quick thoughts before I sign off:

-Aren't the Dolphins a funny team? How many times do they falter on offense all game, only to come up just short with a late comeback attempt? How about some of that hurry up offense earlier in the game?

-It took Ben Roethlisberger long enough to get his first touchdown, and that's all it took to get the defense clicking as well.

-This would've been your ultimate fantasy team Sunday: LaDainian Tomlinson(4 touchdowns), Terrell Owens(3 touchdowns), Torry Holt(3 touchdowns), Deion Branch(2 touchdowns) and Jeremy Shockey(2 touchdowns). We've been waiting for monster days like that from someone all season, but we've only seen it once from Santana Moss(3 touchdowns) a few weeks ago.

-The only major trade that happened saw Anthony McFarland heading to the Colts for a second-round draft choice. It was a smart move on paper for the Colts, who needed a run stuffer after getting torched on the ground this year. Surprisingly, neither Randy Moss nor Jerry Porter were traded. Not trading Moss I understand, but why continue on with the Porter saga? He's clearly not going to be with them much longer anyway, and there were supposedly several suitors for him.
