With the second pick in the NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints selected running back Reggie Bush of USC. The Saints were not expected to be in the running for Bush, especially since he was projected to be selected by the Houston Texans for the past several months. The Saints could have traded the pick, but other teams felt they were asking for too much.

Bush will now join the talented running back of Deuce McAllister on the Saints. Their running back system could suddenly be the best combination in the league, since Bush can also act as a wide receiver. The Saints struggled last year due to Hurricane Katrina, but already made a big move at quarterback in the offseason by signing Drew Brees.

Scouting Information on Bush: Reggie Bush is considered by many as a once in a lifetime player. When you draft Bush you not only get a runner, you get a receiver and a kick returner. He was the Heisman trophy winner this year ahead of Matt Leinart and Vince Young.

Bush is the ultimate package. He has great speed, quickness, instincts, and vision. He can power through several tackles at once, fighting for every last yard. Bush is one of those runners that in college, could turn what appeared to be a normal handoff into a long touchdown run. His ability to change directions and make defenders miss may force opposing defenses to overpursue on Bush, opening up the passing game. He is most effective when he bounces runs to the outside due to his quickness, but he does a decent job running through the defensive line as well. Bush carried a fair load in college, but also had to split time with LenDale White, who may be the second best back in the nation. Bush has never carried the ball more than 25 times in a single game, which leaves the question open of whether or not he can "get stronger" as a game goes on.
