Chicago Bears fullback
Obafemi Ayanbadejo was suspended for the first four games of the regular season by the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse policy. In an unusual case though, Ayanbadejo is insisting that he did not take steroids. He stated that the only thing that might have caused it was a product called Max LMG, which he used back in January. If that was the cause of Ayanbadejo's suspension, then he's going to court against that company.
"I am going to pursue civil action against the company," he said.
Ayanbadejo understands that the NFL is doing its job, and is not blaming the procedures that they run. However, he believes that the punishment is too harsh, considering that he never intended to use an illegal substance.
"We're not idiots," said Ayanbadejo. "We can, for the most part, figure out when a guy's being genuine, if his story holds up -- which mine does. When a guy's getting a bad rap, which I think I am. We should give the arbitrator the ability to lessen the sentence when I had clean drug tests November, December, February, March, April and I took the supplement in January."
Ayanbadejo was released by the Arizona Cardinals because they knew he was going to be suspended. The Bears capitalized on the situation and signed the nine-year veteran.
"He was up front right away," said head coach Lovie Smith. "He told us what happened, and we took it from there."
During his career as a fullback, Ayanbadejo has blocked well, but has been known for his play on special teams as well.
