The Carolina Panthers have wide receiver Rod Gardner from the Washington Redskins in exchange for a sixth round draft pick. The Redskins will save money by the move, giving them a better chance to sign their first round draft choices.
Gardner was told back in January that he could seek a trade. The Panthers were interested in a new receiver after Muhsin Muhammad, a free agent, signed with the Chicago Bears a few months ago.
Last year, Gardner had 51 receptions for 650 yards and five touchdowns. He is expected to compete with wide receiver Keary Colbert for the other starting job. Steve Smith will be the teams number one wideout.
