After being out the past couple of weeks, the Carolina Panthers announced that middle linebacker Dan Morgan would miss the rest of the season. Morgan is attempting to recover from the fifth concussion of his career, which he suffered the first week of the season against the Carolina Panthers.
"He did meet with the medical people and they felt it was in his best interest not to play the remainder of the season," said Panthers head coach John Fox.
"We're concerned about his livelihood and his health and if that means he doesn't play this year, so be it," Fox said.
Morgan, a first-round draft pick from 2001, should be able to return next season, as long as he doesn't suffer any setbacks. He has not been placed on the injured reserve list yet, but they will likely due that later this week so that another player can be signed to their roster. Linebacker Chris Draft has been filling in for Morgan.
"Chris has done an outstanding job for us," Fox said. "He's a veteran guy who understands the defense."
The Panthers defense would love to have Morgan back, but they've settled nicely the past three weeks by winning three in a row.
