The New England Patriots have released veteran cornerback Duane Starks. Starks was acquired from the Arizona Cardinals last year for a draft pick. He started in six games for the Patriots before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury in November 7th during a game.
Starks had 26 tackles and five passes defended during his stay with New England. Tyrone Poole and Randall Gay were also cornerbacks, but they were placed on the injured reserve during the season, leaving rookie Ellis Hobbs to play the position.
Starks was a first-round pick by the Baltimore Ravens in 1998. He signed with the Cardinals in 2002 and missed the entire 2003 season with a torn ACL.
