The Baltimore Ravens officially said goodbye to linebacker
Adalius Thomas when he finalized his agreement to sign with the New England Patriots on Saturday, according to reports. The deal was basically a lock as of Friday night, but negotiations continued into Saturday morning. The 49ers, who have already signed cornerback
Nate Clements and safety
Michael Lewis, were the other major contender for attempting to sign Thomas.
According to the Boston Herald, Thomas' deal would include between $15 and $20 million in guaranteed money. Thomas had 11 sacks for the Ravens last season and has a total of 28 sacks over the past three seasons. He has proven that he can plan any position on defense, and is perhaps the most versatile defensive player today. The move signifies one of the biggest free agent moves that the Patriots have made in recent years.
The Patriots also made two other signings with tight end
Kyle Brady and running back
Sammy Morris. Brady, a 12-year veteran, agreed to a two-year deal worth around $5.3 million per year. He will likely replace tight end
Daniel Graham after spending his past eight seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Brady will pair up with starting tight end
Benjamin Watson.
