The New England Patriots needed a backup plan in case things go sour with
Asante Samuel. The Patriots signed veteran cornerback
Tory James to a one-year deal. The 34-year old cornerback has been with the Cincinnati Bengals for the past four years, recording 21 interceptions during that time. James had four interceptions last season, but the Bengals released him about a month ago.
Samuel was designated as a franchise player by the Patriots in the offseason. Samuel was upset that the Patriots have not made significant attempts to negotiate a deal to his liking.
