Things were finally going right for the Philadelphia Eagles again, until the fourth quarter this past week against the New York Giants. Not only did that collapse and lose the game, but they've learned that defensive end Jevon Kearse suffered a severe knee injury after spraining multiple ligaments in his left knee. The injury occurred on a play during overtime, and he was helped off the field and into the locker room. He had recorded 2.5 sacks in the game.
At the moment, it's not yet known whether or not Kearse will need surgery. He was entering the third year of an eight-year deal worth $66 million. He recorded 7.5 sacks in each of his past two seasons with the Eagles after spending the first five years of his career with the Tennessee Titans.
Former first-round draft pick Jerome McDougle will now start in place of Kearse. Kearse had only missed three games since joining the Eagles in 2004, but "The Freak" will have to add 15 games to that total after the season is over.
