Cleveland, OH. (PFCritics) -- If Larry Johnson was the Kansas City Chiefs starter all of last season, he would have easily gained 2,000 yards in a season. Heading into this season, there's no question that Johnson is the No. 1 guy. Don't forget about the Priest just yet, though.
Head coach Herm Edwards expects talented, but injury-prone, running back Priest Holmes to be ready for training camp on July 28th, reports KC Metro Sports. Holmes had head and neck issues last season, which cut his season short.
"Right now, I'm anticipating that Priest Holmes is coming back," said Edwards during mini-camp Thursday. "I'm hoping for good [medical] reports [in the coming weeks]."
If Holmes' report doesn't go so well and he is not able to return, Dee Brown will become Johnson's primary backup instead of Quentin Griffin. Brown has been praised by Edwards for his work.
"Considering the past I have, and considering the traveling I've done, this is my first real legitimate opportunity, which is something coach Edwards told me I was going to get anyway." Brown said. "Going into the summertime knowing I'll be the No. 2 guy backing up Larry, it's a big step. It really is. You have to think about it. You're only one play away from being the guy."
However, the contrast between a healthy Holmes and Brown is drastic when you compare their careers. If Holmes is available, he'll see a lot of playing time. If Brown is the backup though, Johnson will see a lot more carries.
