The New York Jets have signed former Dallas Cowbouys quarterback Quincy Carter to a one year deal. After starting all 16 games last year, Carter was released about a month ago by the Cowboys.

Carter will now back up Chad Pennington. The Jets were in need of a backup QB, but head coach Herman Edwards said that's not the main reason they signed Carter.

"The worst thing you can do to any individual is not give them hope," Edwards said, "If a negative situation happens to a person in life, if you won't give them hope, shame on you."
