The Oakland Raiders signed running back
Dominic Rhodes to a two-year contract on Friday worth around $7.5 million. Rhodes will try to improve a Raiders team that had the worst record in the NFL last season, and couldn't seem to get through one series without making a stupid mistake.
"I just want to come in and help this team win," Rhodes said. "It's an honor to be here and an awesome experience to play for the Raiders. The whole history of the Raiders, I love it."
At the moment, it is up in the air as to whether or not Rhodes will be the Raiders' starter. They already have
LaMont Jordan on their team, but he only ran for 434 yards and two touchdowns last season after suffering a season-ending knee injury on November 19th.
"Dominic will be a dynamic presence that can diversify our offense both as a runner and pass catcher," said Raiders head coach Lane Kiffin. "He is focused and determined to come here and compete immediately with our other running backs."
Rhodes started all 16 games last season and ran for 641 yards and five touchdowns during the regular season. His low yardage can be attributed to the success that rookie running back
Joseph Addai had in split duty. Come playoff time, the Colts started Addai instead of Rhodes, but still utilized both backs effectively to win the Super Bowl. Rhodes ran for 113 yards against the Chicago Bears in the Colts' 29-17 Super Bowl victory last month.
