The Oakland Raiders defense took a hit when they were forced to put defensive tackle Warren Sapp on the injured reserve, officially ending his season. Sapp had been listed as doubtful for this week's game against the Miami Dolphins due to a shoulder injury. Sapp suffered the injury last Sunday against the Washington Redskins.
An MRI revealed a torn rotator cuff for Sapp. He isn't sure exactly when he got injured in the game.
"It's not a separation, no," said Raiders head coach Norv Turner. "They're just making sure in terms of the structure and everything inside. I think we'll know something in a few days where he's at."
Sapp's injury would not have gotten any better over the next six games, and the Raiders don't have the luxury of waiting for him to recover since they are last in the AFC West. Sapp signed a seven-year, $36.6 million deal with the Raiders last year.
Sapp had 29 tackles with five sacks this season. He has also intercepted one pass and recovered a fumble.
