The St. Louis Rams signed rookie defensive end Adam Carriker to a contract on Friday. Carriker, the 13th overall pick in the draft, will probably jump into the teams starting lineup. The Rams struggled to stop the run last season, and the team hopes that Carriker can take part in improving upon that.

Here is a scouting report on Carriker from before the draft:

Positives: Adam Carriker has good size for the defensive end position, and is more of a "power" guy than Gaines Adams and Jamaal Anderson are. His strength allows him to defend the run exceptionally well. He is technically sound and is intelligent enough to react appropriately during a game. On obvious passing downs, he can utilize his power to pursue the quarterback.

Negatives: Some people may consider him more of a defensive end due to his advantage of power over speed. He is not the greatest pass rusher, partially due to the fact that he doesn't have a quick first step off the line. Carriker has had several minor injuries during his career, but nothing serious enough to concern teams too much. Carriker probably wouldn't be a fit for every team in the league, so a team will have to make a judgment call based on their pre-existing system.
