The Washington Redskins signed S Antuan Edwards and CB Julian Battle on Wednesday in an effort to improve their secondary. The signings came just two days after the Redskins made another move to improve their secondary by trading WR Taylor Jacobs to the San Francisco 49ers for CB Mike Rumph. The Redskins needed help in the secondary after starting CB Shawn Springs injured his abdominal muscle on Tuesday, and will be required to miss three to six weeks.
Battle, 25, spent all of last season on the injured reserve due to a ruptured Achilles tendon. He was originally a third-round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2003. Edwards, 28, has been in the season for seven seasons with the Green Bay Packers, Miami Dolphins, and Atlanta Falcons. Over his career, he has 225 tackles with seven interceptions and three sacks. Last year, Edwards was with the Falcons, where he started only one game.
To make room for Edwards and Battle, the Redskins waived OL Jonta Woodard and DB Chris Hawkins.
