For the Jacksonville Jaguars, a replacement for Jimmy Smith is already in the works. The Jaguars are having second-year receiver Matt Jones line-up with the first team in practice, reports the Florida Times-Union. Wide receiver Ernest Wilford is lining up opposite of him, while Reggie Williams is taking snaps with the second team.
Meanwhile, tight end Marcedes Lewis has impressed coaches with his soft hands and great attitude. Lewis could be involved often in the offense to fill Smith's gap, and could even become the go-to-guy for quarterback Byron Leftwich.
Meanwhile, Roddy White of the Atlanta Falcons wants to be the number one man for the team. He showed some promise with Michael Vick last year, and continued the chemistry in this week's camps.
"I've been getting with Mike [Vick] and [Matt Schaub], telling them to throw me the ball and I'll make some plays," White said. "Hopefully they'll keep throwing to me. The more opportunities I get, the more plays I'll make."
White hopes to make a surprising impact this season.
