Fourth overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft, Philip Rivers, and the San Diego Chargers finally reached an agreement ending the lengthy holdout by the 22 year old rookie. The deal is believed to be worth $40.50 million over 6 years which includes a $14 million signing bonus.Rivers was originally expected to compete with Drew Brees for the starting QB job, but after missing thirty practices during his holdout it is now expected that Drew Brees will get the starting nod come opening day since 11 year veteran Doug Flutie is just getting onto the practice field after having surgery on his left knee. The Chargers were initially sold on Rivers when he was coached by the San Diego coaching staff in the 2004 Senior Bowl. Head coach Marty Schottenheimer says that even though Rivers has an unorthodox release he still has great accuracy and knows exactly where to put the ball. After all Rivers is the second leading passer in NCAA history.
