The Oakland Raiders have released former All-Pro defensive back Rod Woodson. Woodson was sidelined for most of the 2003 season with a serious knee injury. After recieving season ending surgery in December, Woodson began rehabbing and expected to return to the Raiders secondary this season. However he failed his team physical earlier in the week and was let go by the team.
Rod Woodson is the first player in NFL history to make it to the Pro Bowl at 3 different positions (Cornerback, Punt Returner, and Safety), he was elected to 11 Pro Bowls. Woodson is the NFL's all-time leader in interception return yardage (1483) and interecption returns for touchdowns (12). He won the NFL's defensive player of the year honors in 1993 and is 3rd on the all time career interceptions list behind Paul Krause (81) and Emlen Tunnell (79), Woodson has 71. Woodson appeared in 3 Superbowls (1996 with Pittsburgh, 2000 with Baltimore, and 2002 with Oakland), winning one with Baltimore in 2000.
