Ross Verba is back in football. The Detroit Lions have signed the free-agent guard, who didn't play last year after being released by the Cleveland Browns before the start of the season. He signed a one-year deal with an option for more years. To make room for Verba, the team released veteran quarterback Shaun King.
Verba was originally the Green Bay Packers first-round draft pick in 1997. He was their starting left tackle as a rookie. Verba spent the past few years of his career with the Browns, but suffered a biceps injury in 2003 that kept him out for the season.
