The New Orleans Saints signed wide receiver
Robert Meachem to a five-year contract on Tuesday. Meachem was the team's final pick to sign, meaning all of their draft picks were present for the start of training camp Wednesday.
"It has been a priority for us to get all of our picks signed and have them available from day one," said Saints general manager Mickey Loomis. "Robert has worked hard since he joined our team and we expect more of that to come in training camp and beyond."
Meachem's deal should be worth around $11 million, according to inside sources. Meachem is expected to compete for a starting role opposite of
Marques Colston, last year's seventh-round sensation. The team needed another receiver for quarterback
Drew Brees after the team released veteran receiver
Joe Horn. Meachem has a solid shot at winning a job. Last year, he caught 71 passes for 1,298 yards and 11 touchdowns at Tennessee.
