When teams struggle in the running game, a change may need to be made. The Green Bay Packers traded running back Samkon Gado to the Houston Texans for running back Vernand Morency. The trade will be official once both players pass their respective physicals.
The Texans' running game looks completely different than what was expected to begin the season. Starter Domanick Davis suffered an injury right before the season began, forcing the team to claim Ron Dayne off waivers from the Denver Broncos. Now, they also have Gado, who did well last year as a starter when Ahman Green and Najeh Davenport were injured.
Gado will be the big, power running back the Texans need compared to rookies Wali Lundy and Chris Taylor, their other running backs.
"We feel like it gives us two big, banging-type backs and we've got two younger smaller backs in Wali and Chris," said Texans head coach Gary Kubiak. "We like the way that evens out and we hope he can help us."
The Packers probably felt that Green did well enough Sunday to remain their starting running back. Morency will probably become the team's new backup.
