The San Francisco 49ers have hired former Oakland Raiders head coach Norv Turner as their new offensive coordinator. The 49ers lost their former offensive coordinator Mike McCarthy to the Green Bay Packers, who hired him as their new head coach.
Turner coached the Raiders for two seasons only before being fired. He underachieved in both of his seasons with the team, especially after the team signed LaMont Jordan and Randy Moss in the offseason.
When Turner was in Washington from 1997 to 1999, 49ers' head coach Mike Nolan was his defensive coordinator. Now, the roles are switched.
Turner will look to improve the 49ers offense, which is lacking playmakers at the moment. After the team drafted quarterback Alex Smith with the first pick in the draft last year, he did not produce that well. He threw his only touchdown in the final game of the season, but threw 11 interceptions overall.
