There is a new defensive end on the free agent market. The Seattle Seahawks released
Grant Wistrom on Thursday after he had not lived up to expectations since signing a contract with the team in 2004. Wistrom would have made $3.5 million this year. Wistrom had become expendable after the team had signed defensive end
Patrick Kerney one day earlier. Grant was not willing to restructure his deal to the Seahawks' liking, and he was released.
Wistrom had four sacks in each of the past two seasons.
The Seahawks made two additions to their secondary by signing safeties
Deon Grant and
Brian Russell to deals. Grant has spent the past three seasons with the Jaguars as their starting safety after being a second-round draft choice in 2000 by the Carolina Panthers. Grant is expected to replace former starter
Ken Hamlin, who is currently a free agent.
