The Seattle Seahawks have placed the transition tag on All-Pro guard Steve Hutchinson. The Seahawks were not able to negotiate a long-term deal at the moment, and the Seahawks did not want Hutchinson to become an unrestricted free agent.
Right now, Hutchinson will receive about $6.39 million next season. Once free agency begins, Hutchinson can accept offers from other teams, but Seattle can refuse those offers. If the Seahawks do not reach a long-term deal with Hutchinson by March 17th, they will not be able to negotiate again until July.
Hutchinson is one of the best guards in the league, and part of the reason that Shaun Alexander was the league's MVP. He was the 17th overall pick in the 2001 draft. Now that the Hutchinson situation has been temporarily resolved, the team will try to re-sign Alexander.
