There's no doubting the talent that Redskins free safety Sean Taylor has. However, things have not gone too well for the young safety since he's entered the league, and that continued Friday. Taylor now faces up to 46 years in prison after two additional assault charges were filed against him.
Michael Grieco, an assistant state attorney, stated that the chargers against Taylor are related to an incident that occurred on June 1st. Taylor allegedly threatened three people with a gun in an armed confrontation. A trial is scheduled to start on March 20th. The additional charges came as a surprise to Taylor.
"The state has had this case since June and now they're filing these added charges? It's bizarre," said Edward Carhart, Taylor's attorney.
Taylor has pleaded not guilty and is currently free after posting a $16,500 bond. Taylor, who just finished his second season with the Redskins, has 120 tackles and six interceptions during his career. He got in trouble during the playoffs, spitting in the face of Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Michael Pittman. Taylor was promptly ejected from the game.
