Shaun Alexander won't be able to break his rushing touchdown record this year. Last year's MVP is out indefinitely with a broken left foot. He will at least miss several weeks, but it could be more.
Alexander suffered the injury this past week against the New York Giants. Alexander rushed for 47 yards on 20 carries. He did not play during the 4th quarter, when the Seahawks were well ahead, 42-3. Little did the Seahawks know, they would only end up winning by 12 points.
"You lose the MVP for a while, it's a hit," said Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren. "Let's face the facts: He is the MVP. We're not going to sugarcoat that."
Maurice Morris will make his fifth career start this week against the Chicago Bears in place of Alexander. After that, the Seahawks have a bye before facing the St. Louis Rams on October 15th.
"I don't think it will be real lengthy," Holmgren said. "Now, he just has to stay off of it and let it heal. We're looking at a few weeks, let's put it that way. The good thing is, it's just a small, little crack -- if you want to talk about a good thing."
Morris rushed for 18 yards on 15 carries against the Giants this past Sunday.
"I do have a lot of confidence in Mo Morris," Holmgren said.
"You have only one way to go. Just plug someone in and go."
At the moment, it's not yet known if the Seahawks will sign another running back while Alexander heals. At first, there was speculation that Alexander would miss the rest of the season. Right now, that is not the case.
