Last year, Tedy Bruschi did not join the Patriots in training camp due to a stroke. This year, he can't participate due to an injury. After being absent from camp since July 31st, the team has finally confirmed that Bruschi's "sore wrist" is actually a "broken wrist". Bruschi will miss the entire preseason due to the injury. At this moment, it is not clear whether or not he'll be ready by the team's preseason opener on September 10th against the Buffalo Bills.
In regards to why the announcement came late, this is what Bill Belichick had to say:
"The information was new information and I was asked a question so I answered it truthfully," Belichick said, "as I did the week before."
According to the Patriots, it is unclear whether or not Bruschi will need surgery. At the moment, veterans Larry Izzo, Don Davis, and Barry Gardner are candidates to fill in for Bruschi.
The Patriots defense is trying to rebound this year, but they already lost one linebacker in the offseason - Willie McGinest - to the Cleveland Browns.
