Teams can now officially express interest in Terrell Owens, somewhat. The Philadelphia Eagles have told Owens' agent Drew Rosenhaus that he can seek a trade with another team. The only way a team may be interested in a trade is if their are several teams interested in attaining him from the same division. Everyone knows that the Eagles will cut Owens by March 1st, 2006, so they do not have to pay him a roster bonus. That may incline others to wait until then.
All the Eagles are asking in return are draft picks mainly, but would accept a trade for certain players if they could use their help. It is unclear how large the market will be for Owens since he has been a "cancer" on the 49ers and Eagles, and even demanded he be traded away from the Ravens last year.
If a team trades for Owens, they would also attain the remainder of his seven-year, $48.97 million contract. Despite having team and media problems, there is no questioning of Owens production. He caught 77 passes for 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns last year. Although he only played seven games this season before being suspended and deactivated, Owens caught 47 passes for 763 yards and six touchdowns. Production like that can really help teams, such as the Dallas Cowboys, next season. There has been speculation that the Cowboys would like to sign Owens, keeping him in the same division as the Eagles.
