Dallas Cowboys starting receiver Terry Glenn will not play this Sunday against the New York Giants due to an injury to his knee that was operated on during the preseason. Glenn had arthroscopic surgery back on August 1 to remove a cyst from the back of his right kneecap, causing him to miss all four preseason games. With the original surgery, Glenn was on target to return for Week 1, until suffering another injury in practice on Wednesday.
"Unfortunately, he had another injury that was not related to the original injury," said Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips.
Glenn could miss two weeks in total, but after that, he should be ready to return, barring any other setbacks. Glenn caught 70 passes for 1,047 yards and six touchdowns last year, making a nice complement to top receiver Terrell Owens. Phillips knows his team was able to prepare for games without Glenn in the preseason, meaning that they aren't too concerned about the position this Sunday.
Starting in place of Glenn will be Patrick Crayton, who has totaled 1,019 yards and seven touchdowns over his three-year career. The slot receiver for Dallas will be Sam Hurd.
"Patrick Crayton is very dependable," Phillips said. "He's a very heady player. He always finds a way to get open."
Whatever happens, most of the spotlight will still be on Owens, and whether or not he gets the ball as often as he wants it.
