Should the Denver Broncos start Jay Cutler, or Jake Plummer? Two weeks ago, it seemed like a no brainer that a quarterback change would not make sense on a team that was 7-2. However, after losing two straight division games in which Plummer has not played very well, the rumors have started up again - and this time, they could be for real.
Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan will not declare who will start at quarterback for the Broncos when they face the Seattle Seahawks on December 3rd. The fans want Shanahan to give the job to the rookie Cutler, but that could end up throwing the season away unless he does as well as someone like Tony Romo has done in Dallas.
"I can't tell you what's going to happen," said Plummer after the 19-10 loss to the Chiefs. "All I know is that I'm getting on the plane, going to take a few days off and come back. And if I'm still behind the trigger, I'm going to play as hard as I can, like I always have."
Cutler will be ready if he steps into the game, but he knows that a change at this point of the season would be do-or-die time.
"Yeah, I think I can go out there and play and be efficient with this offense," Cutler said. "I don't get a lot of reps in practice and haven't played since preseason, so if I do get in there, I'll have to knock the rust off."
Cutler was drafted by the Broncos in the first round of this year's draft, with the team having visions of him replacing Plummer in a year or two. After a mistake-free season a year ago, Plummer has returned to his "Jake the Mistake" status in the minds of many.
"I'm the starter right now," Plummer said, "and if Mike feels that he wants to put Jay in there, then my play hasn't warranted him to not do it."
PFC Analysis: In fantasy leagues, you should definitely free up a roster spot if possible and sign Cutler. It's better to be safe than sorry come gameday, or before someone else snatches him up just for the heck of it.
