The Tennessee Titans continue to make a splash in free agency. The Titans signed wide receiver David Givens to a five-year deal. Givens, who was with the New England Patriots the past few seasons, was considered by some as the top free-agent receiver on the board originally.
"My opportunities here to flourish were a little bit better," Givens said.
Last year, Givens caught 59 passes for 738 yards and two touchdowns. Givens will be a veteran among several very young Titans' receivers. Titans' head coach Jeff Fisher hopes that Givens can help guide Brandon Jones, Courtney Roby, and Roydell Williams into better players.
"I'm a guy who leads through my actions rather than my words," Givens said.
Givens will probably be the team's number one receiver, just ahead of veteran Drew Bennett.
The Titans also signed center Kevin Mawae, who was let go by the New York Jets, Mawae signed a four-year deal worth about $13 million. Mawae missed most of last season due to a triceps injury.
"Kevin has been extremely durable just year after year," said Titans general manager Floyd Reese. "Kevin is one of those guys who understands what winning is and knows how to win and can help everybody along that way."
The Titans have made a significant impact in free agency so far.
