The San Diego Chargers are reportedly close to a deal with All-Pro RB LaDainian Tomlinson that would make him the highest paid running back in football.
The deal is believed to be worth more than $60 million, and would pay Tomlinson about $34 million in the first four years. Tomlinson would also earn more than $20 million in guaranteed money.
Tomlinson, 25, is widely regarded as the best running back in football. Last year he ran for 1645 yards, and caught 100 more passes for 725 yards. He also scored 17 TDs. Tomlinson has more yards from scrimmage than anyone else in their first three years in the league.
In my opinion, Tomlinson is the top all-around running back in football, and San Diego is doing whatever they need to do to lock him up long term. Smart move by the Chargers if they can accomplish the feat.
I wonder what the Chargers are putting into Tomlinson's head, because it's obvious the Chargers aren't close to a contender at this point, and Tomlinson would have a huge market if he were to test free agency. However, it is nice to see a player loyal to his team for once.
