The son of Indianapolis Colts' head coach Tony Dungy, James, was found dead in his Florida apartment. The Colts' players were stunned in their locker rooms after hearing the news, and Tony Dungy will be on an indefinite leave of absence.
"It breaks your heart to see something like that happen to such a great person," said Colts' receiver Brandon Stokley. "We're just going to pray for him and ask everybody else to pray for him."
James Dungy was only 18 years old. The cause of his sudden death is not yet officially known, but one rumor is suicide. Tony Dungy will definitely not be at this week's Colts vs. Seahawks match-up, leaving assistant head coach Jim Caldwell in charge.
"Players were surprised and upset emotionally about it," said Colts' starting QB Peyton Manning. "Everybody said a team prayer for coach Dungy and his family. It's laying on the hearts of all the players here today."
This is the third death that Dungy has had to deal with in the past three years. His mother passed away in January of 2002, while his father died in June of 2004.
Although tragedies can sometimes bring the best out of a football team in an emotional lift, but you never know how this could effect an outstanding Colts team, which lost its first game of the season last week to the San Diego Chargers.
We here at PFC send our thoughts and prayers out to Tony Dungy and his family.
