What happened to the promising Oakland Raiders offense that appeared to be full of Pro Bowlers? That's what the Raiders would like to know too. Raiders' head coach Norv Turner may try to mix things up this week by demoting QB Kerry Collins and starting QB Marques Tuiasosopo this week against the New York Jets.
"I wouldn't have brought it up if it wasn't something we're considering strongly," Turner said after losing this past Sunday. "We're going to look at the quarterback situation and say, 'Hey, is it time to look at Tui?' With his mobility, would that help us?"
Tuiasosopo has been the teams backup since 2001 when the Raiders drafted him. He started a game in 2003 when former QB Rich Gannon was injured for a game. Tuiasosopo hurt his knee during that game and did not finish.
Tuiasosopo did not do well in the preseason, throwing four interceptions and no touchdowns. However, the Raiders' fans have been wanting Tuiasosopo to replace Collins for weeks after his poor performances.
This year, Collins has thrown 16 touchdowns, but has thrown ten inceptions during crucial moments.
"It's been a variety of things," Collins said. "Certainly, I take as much responsibility as anybody. It seems like it's been different things at different times, where the players get penalties or non-execution. Like I said, I'm not going to point fingers. I know that I didn't live up to the expectations I had for myself this season."
